Our CC Community will be hosting a FREE homeschool informational event on Saturday, March 31st at Mt. Hermon Missionary Baptist Church just south of Rocky Mount.
Sessions:
8am - The pros and cons of homeschooling
9am - The benefits of a Classical Christian education
10am - Homeschooling with Classical Conversations
11am - Homeschooling Classically through the upper grades: An introduction to the Challenge Program
The first two seminars will not be specific to Classical Conversations while the last two will address elements of the programs we offer. This event is open to anyone interested in homeschooling, learning more about the classical method, or learning more about Classical Conversations.
Visitors are welcome to come to any or all of the sessions, so come on out, bring a friend, or pass this flier along to someone who may be considering homeschooling.

CC at NCHE
The annual conference held by North Carolinians for Home Education begins in Winston-Salem on Thursday. I am excited to say that Classical Conversations will have a presence at the book and vendor fair this year. If you are headed to Winston-Salem for this event, this would be a great opportunity to stop by and learn more about Classical Conversations and the programs offered by CC.
If you are attending the conference, you will find Classical Conversations vendor workshops on the schedule. There will also be workshops presented by our NC State Manager, Lisa Bailey. And, of course, you won't want to miss Nancy Pearcey as one of the featured speakers!
Justin and I will be at the CC booth on Friday evening. Feel free to stop by and say, "Hi."

Challenge A Informational Meeting
UPDATED!
Monday, May 23rd
Monday, May 23rd
7 pm
at Mt Hermon Missionary Baptist
This meeting is open to anyone who may be interested in learning more about the Challenge program and potentially enrolling students in the Challenge A (7th - 9th grades) program in Rocky Mount next year. Justin Nale is the director and tutor for that program, and he will be discussing the seminars for next year as well as answering any questions. This meeting was originally scheduled for May 9th, but a death in Justin's church required that the meeting be moved to the 23rd.
You can find more information about the Challenge Program at the Classical Conversations web site. Information about tuition and fees is available in the registration packet. The 2011 catalog is also helpful in explaining the seminars that will be a part of the lineup for Challenge A.
Questions about the upcoming meeting may be sent to Justin Nale via email.

Essentials of the English Language - 4th Edition
Classical Conversations has been working hard over the last year to bring you a new edition of the Essentials guide. The new edition is not presently available for purchase, but it expected to be in stock some time in May. The hope is that it will be available for purchase in time for the practicum season that begins early in the summer. It will not be available for pre-order.
The price of the new guide will be $45. However, CC is committed to making it available at the practicums and conventions for $30 until August 1st, and via the online bookstore for a limited time.
While the new edition has vastly improved in the user-friendliness department, the overall content is very much the same. It will be up to each family as to whether you prefer to purchase the new guide or continue with the old one.
You can check out some FAQs for the guide and also view sample pages to help you decide if you want to invest in the new edition.
You must be registered in an Essentials program to purchase the Essentials guide, so you will need to know the name of your Foundations/Essentials Director.
